An investigation is underway after a 32-year-old man was found dead in his cell at the Josephine County Jail.
The sheriff's office identified the prisoner as Zachary Dumont of Brookings and said he was found unresponsive in his cell at 5:40 p.m. on Friday.
"Medical assistance was rendered until personnel from the Grants Pass Fire Department and AMR arrived and took over attempting life saving measures," the sheriff's office said. Read More »

Several of Grants Pass High's top athletes signed letters of intent to compete in college at ceremonies earlier this week at the school.
Brooke Anderson, the Cavers' star point guard who led Grants Pass to its first state tournament trophy in nearly 50 years, signed to play basketball and compete in track and field for Oregon Tech.
Anderson was the Southwest Conference Player of the Year, averaging 18.7 points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals a game.

A 47-year-old man accused of yelling, swinging a baseball bat and hitting vendor trucks at the Grants Pass Growers Market was arrested at 8:54 a.m. Saturday on suspicion of second-degree disorderly conduct and failure to report as a sex offender. The district attorney's office declined to file the disorderly conduct charge, but he remained in custody Monday on the failure-to-report charge. Read More »
