A $1 million shortfall in the Josephine County budget announced this week by the county's finance director confirmed pending cuts to law enforcement services Sheriff Dave Daniel has warned about even before a special taxing district to bolster the sheriff's office was approved by voters in November.
"That's what I heard when I was lobbying for the district: People were saying that if it passed, all our other funding might be taken away," Daniel said Friday.
With a mark of 36 feet, 4 inches, Hidden Valley's Aja LaPan won her second consecutive state championship in the Class 4A triple jump Friday at Hayward Field in Eugene.

EUGENE — Aja LaPan decided to focus on the triple jump this season.
That was bad news for her opponents.
The Hidden Valley senior won eight of the nine meets she competed in this season before the Class 4A state meet.
