Illinois Valley senior Dylan Beals earned first-team All-District 6 honors at two different positions, pitcher and utility player. As a pitcher, Beals was 9-1 with 101 strikeouts and a 2.15 ERA over the course of 52 innings. He allowed just 27 hits during the season.

Senior Dylan Beals earned two first-team All-District 6 baseball awards in honors recently announced by the league.
Beals got his nods as a pitcher and a utility player.
On the mound, he went 9-1 with a 2.15 ERA. Beals struck out 101 hitters in 52 innings pitched, allowing just 27 hits.
"He was our ace, as he has been the last two years," said Illinois Valley coach Jesse Dugas. "He's a four-pitch kid, kind of a Greg Maddux type. We're going to miss him."

The city of Talent will get a bit of financial relief with a couple of grants totaling $1.1 million from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency.
U.S. Sens. Jeff Merkley and Ron Wyden of Oregon last week made the announcement that Talent will receive the funds through two Defensible Space and Hazardous Fuels Reduction Project grants.

This year's Summer Reading Program was put together by Josephine Community Library staff, including the artwork for the poster, which was created by staff graphic designer Sarah Meyer. The reading program and all related events are free for participants. No library card is needed to join the fun.
