The annual Kids Dash on Saturday made getting hundreds of children to put down their phones and run laps look like child's play.

North Medford pitcher Gabbi Urban, one of five Black Tornado players named to the All-Southwest Conference first team, went 10-4 in league play with a 1.92 ERA. She struck out 119 batters in just 83 2/3 innings.

Five North Medford players were named to the first team and the Black Tornado's Chris Campbell was picked as Coach of the Year in the All-Southwest Conference softball awards, which were announced this week.
"It's always an honor to be recognized by your peers," Campbell said. "This is a great league for softball and we have some great coaches.
"It was kind of a shock. But it is greatly appreciated."
It was the third time Campbell has won the award in his career.

A 30-year-old man was arrested at 9:42 a.m. Friday near Caveman Bridge after he allegedly threatened a nearby business owner with a rock after the business owner objected to a mess the man made on the sidewalk with a pizza. The suspect, 30-year-old Jonathan D. Mahoney, spent the weekend in jail and on Monday was arraigned on a felony charge of unlawful use of a weapon.
