A budget hearing on Tuesday appeared to pit the need to put more sheriff's deputies on patrol in Josephine County against the need for the county to guard against the threat of cyberattack.

The hearing by the county budget committee was ostensibly to star Sheriff Dave Daniel, who has been vocal about what he considers to be a looming broken promise made to voters last year as he struggles to build up his agency.

Aubree Schmidt and Emma Mendes both hit over .440 to lead a group of four Hidden Valley softball players who earned first-team All-Skyline Conference awards, which were announced this week.

ASHLAND — The first tentative steps were taken toward deciding the future use of a former homeless shelter, with an ad hoc committee to work on creating a facility master plan for the property.
